Victor VBS-70 String Review

The Victor VBS-70 is Victor's flagship performance string, designed to compete directly with Yonex's BG series. Used by several Victor-sponsored professionals on the BWF circuit, it brings high-level performance characteristics to club players at a reasonable price.

Specifications

  • Gauge: 0.70mm
  • Composition: High Polymer Nylon
  • Recommended tension: 20–30 lbs
  • NZD Price (per set): ~$16–$20

Performance

The VBS-70 delivers a tight, crisp response that feels slightly sharper than BG80 on touch shots. The string bed holds tension well and provides predictable shuttle control — particularly on net shots and deceptive drops where feel is critical. Power output is comparable to BG80 for most players.

Tension Holding

One of the VBS-70's stronger attributes is its tension retention. Compared to some budget strings that go dead within a few sessions, the VBS-70 maintains its characteristics for longer — an important factor for club players who don't restring frequently.

Pros

  • Good tension retention
  • Crisp, responsive feel
  • Strong value compared to Yonex equivalents
  • Works well on Victor and non-Victor rackets

Cons

  • Less widely available in NZ than Yonex strings
  • Slightly less power than BG80 on heavy smashes

Verdict

The Victor VBS-70 is a high-quality performance string that deserves wider recognition in New Zealand. If you're open to non-Yonex strings and want excellent feel at a competitive price, the VBS-70 is a compelling choice.

Rating: 8/10
